Common p.art is an artistic project that combines elements of contemporary and avant-garde art with the works of the old masters to create new images with completely different meaning.
In my art pieces, I like to refer to the works of modern and contemporary artists connected to various artistic movements of non-figurative art. The figures and elements from the paintings of old masters are interwoven with the context of the modern and contemporary artists and then arranged into a coherent whole, as if they have always been connected. I draw not only from the visual layer, but also from the technological layer, which was especially explored by the modernist artists in search of new means of expression. I try to find connections and similarities in such diverse works; and by that, I try to find the “common part”.
These connections create new paths to interpretation. They focus not only on the similarities, but also on the differences. They also reveal various problems and show how art has progressed through centuries.
However, what particularly drives this project is the desire to create a dialogue between what appears to be incompatible. I wanted to prove that such different elements can coexist, and that together, they can possibly create something completely new, an added value that would be impossible to create by any of those entities individually.
It’s something that came to the surface through my own experiences and dilemmas. At every step, starting with my own family, I encounter many extremely different approaches regarding both value and art. The experience of studying in different places, under the guidance of different people, did not allow me to come to an agreement with myself in understanding what is most valuable in art.
In the end, my favourite period in art history became the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. It was the time of breakthrough, when classical figurative art began to be replaced by avant-garde approaches. Sometimes these art movements intertwined within a single art piece.
What fascinates me in the works of the old masters is the technique, workshop skills, often exquisitely selected compositions, colours and symbolism. In contemporary art, however, I am captivated by the unconventional approach, interesting concepts, and sometimes the simplicity of form or the boldness of colours.
I have been searching for my own creative path for a long time, but such different artistic tastes made it hard for me to find the common part that would combine both approaches. It is through this cycle that I would like to try to bring them together.
